$5 Sushi Wednesday?! That's how my Publix obsession began. Kudos to the sushi chef for always greeting us by name, making sure our sushi is fresh (sometimes making it before our eyes!) and most importantly providing excellent customer service. Because of him, I took notice and have been shopping with Publix for everything my family needs.
Money was sent from me to an individual via Wesrern Union. The person went to the Publix store in Guntersville, Al to receive the money using their WU service. Publix kept the money and refused to pay it to the receiver stating "the amount had to be known". NOWHERE on WU confirmation of transfer does it state the receiver must know dollar amount to receive the money. It clearly states the receiver must have the MTCN "tracking number" and an acceptable government issued ID. The receiver had both and presented them but was denied the money. This prompted me to call the store. I first spoke with a girl whom I believe is named Tasha. She was no help and very rude. I then requested to speak to the acting evening store Manager. I am confident of her name, as I had retrieved a pen and paper at this point and wrote it down. Her name was MEAGAN THOMPSON, or at least that is what she told me her name was. Meagan is THE rudest Publix employee I have ever had dealings with. She would not listen to what I was trying to communicate and hung up on me. Having worked at the HWY 31 Publix in Hoover, I know from personal experience this is not the Publix way taught to beginning employees. A fish rots from the head down as an old saying goes.
I will no longer do any business with the Guntersville Publix and will also share this experience with others encouraging them to do the same. Hopefully all the vacationers and fisherman and anyone else that may be in need of a money transfer will see this and choose not to do business there as well. Contact will be made with WU as well as Publix Corporate informing them of the issues encountered and the rude disrespectful manner in which I was treated from the Publix employees.
The customer service is top notch, the sale prices are fantastic, the deli food is simply amazing, and the environment is clean and welcoming. Someone is always ready to help you to your car with your groceries. Honestly, even if you pay a little extra for some items, it is worth it for the atmosphere you find here. Plus, the Publix brand items are just as good as the name brands! The variety of fresh fruits and vegetables is superb. And, I know I've already mentioned it, but you must try the deli! There's a huge selection of meats and cheeses, their sandwiches can't be beat, and the hot bar is delish! Go by and check it out for yourself!
